I've known immigrants who lost their ability to speak in <2 years, others who still have an accent after 20 years, & others who seamlessly switch between English & their Filipino language(s) in the middle of a sentence even after 20 years. Fluency is prismatic not a binary switch :-) Of course it's not just Filipinos! It happens to German, French speaking immigrants, etc
- And I've never met a Filipino born in the USA or Canada who speaks any Filipino languages fluently but that's because I am old :-) and there weren't many Filipino kids I met growing up in small town Ontario, Canada in the 70s and 80s. Installed Rogers 5G Home Internet Ultimate plan, my upload speed has gone up 1500% (from less than 1Mb/s to 15MB/s or more on Telus's antiquidated DSL service). do you remember fixed wireless access from the 90s and 2000s at Nortel? Neither do I :-) It's 2026 so I have Rogers 5G Home Internet and it's upload speed is 10x my Telus DSL. Apparently, Telus won't turn on their fiber until their accountants tell them to for our 1995 10 unit condo (by 2030?) and I can't have both Shaw and Telus because my condo only has 1 wire (it's supposed to have both by law but reasons?!?!). So I bought this service on a lark :-) since there's no contract.
Sounds like it's time to switch to Shaw cable internet which has the same upload speed. I call Telus every year and ask about fiber but I'm fed up waiting for them to turn it on :-) My neighbours in a brand new 4 plex across the street have Telus fiber so it's ready, just need to flip a switch or so I am told by Telus contractors :-) but accountants or something :-)
I have been told conflicting stories about Telus fiber IRL at Telus's store and also by Filipino :-) call centre agents in the Philippines and by Telus contractors who installed the fiber that goes to all of the newly built residential buildings on my block . Oh brother :-)
And I am 100% sure that Telus fiber if/when I get it, will be a lot better than Rogers or Shaw or Fixed Wireless Access from Rogers or Fido but I'm fed up waiting :-) and calling yearly. I've called once year since at least 2018 LOL

It's just that people (the diaspora and the ones living in the Philippines) don't actually know beyond the common place and the cliche. Perhaps because it takes a lot of time and it's expensive to to check it out in the USA and Canada (and in the Philippines). I can't listen to my friend Kevin's second and third pre 1989 alternative 80s shows because the web developer failed or something or React fails? The first episode works fine. I tried debugging it with Firefox web tools and couldn't figure it out i.e. I'm a terrible hobbyist web developer part 8888 :-).
The Dominant Hegemony (DH) historically & today choose to NOT acknowledge their privilege & value their convenience (for food delivery, mobility etc) over paying non-DH folks a living wage. Cities aren't going away despite pundits and their dreams :-) of self driving cars (which we don't need and won't work; we already have public transit, trains and buses) and food delivery.
The DH is fine anywhere: suburbia, urban core, etc because everything comes to them & is built for them so it doesn't matter where they live. Since the 1918 pandemic, pundits have been wrongly predicting the demise of cities. Wrong then, wrong now :-)
It's 2025: could websites, blog posts and newsletters use links to actually link to the restaurant, website, museum, etc that they're referring to pretty please :-) ?

My Apeman R1 Seeker rear view real-time video camera shows lots people illegally driving with their daytime running lights OFF behind me in the city of Vancouver.
Law abiding people don't exist when driving cars (as well as bicycles; bicycles aren't 4000 pounds of daily danger, the consequences of law breaking are much lower on a bicycle especially an "acoustic" :-) one; I don't condone breaking traffic laws when bicycling or driving.).
I ride (my rides on Strava) 12km (6km each way Trout Lake to Gastown) Monday-Friday and I see in the Apeman R1 seeker rear view real time video camera I got in 2023 or was it 2024 :-) at least a couple of cars or trucks with their daytime running lights off. These people are probably the ones who complain about bicyclists not following traffic laws LOL.

And while to many this may feel like a far-fetched, sci-fi premise, for those of us living with Long COVID, it does in fact feel that most people today are actively promoting the spread of COVID rather than engaging with our ongoing efforts to halt and reduce the virusā spread.
For example, weāve known for years that cleaning the indoor air by introducing higher ventilation standards and HEPA filtration standards would drastically reduce airborne illness. Thereās a new technology called Far UVC that inactivates viral pathogens in the air. Combining these two could be a game changer- drastically reducing how much we all get sick. Yet no matter how much we bring up this idea- and no matter how often and how seriously their children get sick- people seem to prefer getting sick than breaking from The Borg.
And The Borg, to be clear, is approximately where the show goes next.

And there's no links. Digital text wins. If your notes are digital and text only (markdown, html, none of that other stuff :-) or text + PNG and JPEG it's simple (no crazy Obsidian or other note taking system needed) and will last forever. I want my Newton back. I guess I'll eventually buy an iPad mini with something like the paperlike screen protector that enhances the writing experience with an Apple Pencil and a Remarkable. Stylus plus printing recognition works for me., Again #Ymmv :-) an example of the analogue note taking propaganda er marketing :-) is
